First post + some stuff about strikers...

Hello guys,

So here it is. The very first post on this blog! Once in a while I have some thoughts that are too comprehensive to fit within the EXTREMELY short Twitter-format. Surely there might be some sort of add-ons, but I've decided to follow the blog road. Let's see how it goes.

Before I begin I would like to apologize for the language. I'm Danish and English is not my natural language. I assume you'll survive. If you spot any severe mistakes, just shout it out.

Over the last couple of weeks it has become clear that Van Persie will soon be leaving our beloved club. His contract runs out next summer and he has made it perfectly clear that he does not wish to sign a new contract with us. The way he made that clear could be the basis of a whole other blog-post. Unfortunately he has come to a point where he believes he is bigger than the club. But enough about that. It's time to let go and move forward as the club always has.

This is not a situation we are inexperienced with. Just to take a few examples we've tried the same with Flamini and the über-cunt Nasri. In the case of Flamini we failed to bring in a capable replacement. Instead Wenger gambled on Denilson, who did in fact seem to be a fairly talented player. But it clearly wasn't enough. In the case of Nasri we had already brought in Gervinho.

In this situation we're in I see a lot of people looking for a reaction to the likely exit of Van Persie on the transfer market. Over the last couple of weeks I've seen a lot of people arguing that we should bring in players such as Dzeko, Rondon, Villa, Higuain, Hulk, Falcao etc. And two things come to my mind:

1) Why is it that so many people look so much at names and so little at the role that is to be filled out? We do not play wit a fox in the box. Our centre forward is more related to the false 9, having a big role in the build up. One main ability is playing with the back against big and often brutal defenders. Can you honestly see Villa, Higuain or Falcao doing that? And why is Hulk mentioned? His success at Porto didn't come as a centre forward.

2) Why is it that hard to realise that we have already brought in the replacement? Earlier in this summer we brought in to strong forward, Giroud and Podolski. The former is perfectly casted for the role. It is very similar to the role he filled out at Montpellier where he was very good at linking up and holding on to the ball, while obviously also being very dangerous. 21 goals and 9 assists in 36 games is very good. The latter is versatile playing on the flank for Germany and mostly at the centre for Cologne. He managed 18 goals and 7 assists in 28 league starts.

And we still have to get rid of several players, besides Van Persie we are looking to sell Chamakh, Bendtner, Vela, Arshavin and hopefully Park. Let's say we manage to sell those players, we would have Giroud and Podolski for one position. While Podolski will probably have a main role as a winger he can easily be moved, as we have Gervinho and Ox to cover for him. It's fair to say that we should look to have a third choice. We are quite unlucky on the injury front. But do we really need to buy another big name? No, of course not. We are probably talking about a need of less than 500 minutes in the league. Is it then overkill to buy a player like Dzeko? Hell yeah!

Hopefully people will soon manage to put things in perspective when they go transfer bonanza in the best Football Manager style.

That was the first post. Hopefully you've enjoyed it.

Have a great day.
